Q & A

Q1: What is your background and what are you doing now?

A1: “I have a background in academic and industry, with a focus on technology transfer, entrepreneurial ecosystem building, and strategic planning. Currently, I am serving as the Director of the Office of Technology Commercialization at the University of Kentucky, where I lead a team in managing the identification, protection marketing and licensing of intellectual property across various fields."

Q2: What inspired you to work with startups?

A2: "I was inspired to work with startups because of the passion and innovation that entrepreneurs bring to the table. I am driven by the opportunity to help startups navigate the challenges of commercialization, mentor them in building successful ventures, and witness the transformative impact their ideas can have on industries and communities."

 

Q3: What has been the most rewarding part of your work in supporting startups?

A3: "The most rewarding part of my work in supporting startups is seeing the growth and success of these ventures over time. Witnessing the journey of a startup from concept to commercialization, and ultimately seeing them thrive and make a positive impact in their respective industries, is incredibly fulfilling."

 

Q4: What community resources do you like to recommend to the startups you work with?

A4: "Of course, I recommend the Launch Blue Accelerator program! Similarly, I am excited about Invest Blue coming online, which will provide entrepreneurs access to capital and engage and train people who want to become investors. There are also great resources like the Startup Breakfast, Small Business Development Center, Awesome Inc, Bluegrass Angels and Keyhorse Capital. Also, there are a lot of ecosystem community members who are very generous with their time in mentoring and coaching entrepreneurs."

 

Q5: What is one piece of advice you would share to anyone considering becoming a community service provider?

A5: “My advice to someone considering becoming a community service provider would be to prioritize building strong relationships and networks within the community. Collaborate with local organizations, leverage existing resources, and actively seek opportunities to support and empower individuals and startups in achieving their goals."
